The Energy of the Garden with Naomi Slade
This interview was originally recorded by Zoom on June 4, 2024.
I love my garden. I love spending as much time in it as I possibly can. I love visiting the flowers each day and witnessing their changes, their transformations, in real time. I take my breaks from work, or I go out first thing in the morning before the sun is up or last thing in the evening after the owl descends from the Palm tree. I know this is the one place where can find respite; I can find renewal; I always find peace.
Today I am on a Zoom call with my very special guest in the U.K., author, journalist, and garden designer extraordinaire Naomi Slade. She has received awards for her installations at the recent Chelsea flower show, she’s written ten books to date on flowers and gardening, such as Hydrangeas, Ranunculus, Lilacs, Lilies, Dahlias, Snowdrops, and soon to be released Chrysanthemums, as well as An Orchard Odyssey and The Winter Garden. Naomi’s work is a love letter to the garden, full of beauty, poetry, and wisdom.
Our conversation touches on the life-force energy of flowers. How we feel more alive and vital when we’re tending a garden. We touch on the many ways that plants provide support and sustenance for humans and how to thrive within this connection.
